"Yes, come," Jesus said.
Matthew 14:29a.
Can you walk on water?
Random right?
Where did that come from?
I thought about it for a minute, and with surprising confidence, I answered yes. Peter did it.
Now, let's reason this together...
Peter was an ordinary man like me. If he walked on water, I can too. And so can you!
Sure he didn't make it far, sure he started to sink, but that doesn't have to be our story. We know where he missed it. We know what went wrong, and by the grace of God, we can avoid it as we step out of the boat in faith!
"O you of little faith," Jesus said to Peter, "Why did you doubt?" Matthew 14:31
That tells me we can walk on water successfully if we do not doubt. In other words, we can do the impossible if we do not doubt. "For with God, nothing shall be impossible." Luke 1:37
In Matthew 14:30, we see that it was when Peter took his eyes off Jesus that he began to sink. When he started, the winds were strong (vs 24), but the only reason he didn't sink immediately he stepped on the water was because his eyes were on Jesus.
Peters experience on the water is honestly so relatable.
When I'm facing my own version of heavy waves and boisterous winds, I have an unexplainable sense of calm and confidence amidst those challenges - as long as I maintain fellowship with the Lord, filling myself with his word, fixing my eyes on Him as I do so. The moment I look away, however, the moment I let the sounds of the waves and wind distract me from maintaining that fellowship, panic enters, and I begin to sink.
No wonder the word says, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
We ought to constantly feed our faith and keep our eyes on Him in whom our faith lies.
You see, faith drowns out the voice of fear.
Through the eyes of faith, we see victory, so we keep walking on water.
Jesus is calling all of us to walk on water. He was human when he walked on water. Peter was too.
What is that situation that is seemingly impossible? or that challenge that you are shying away from because you think you can't do it? Jesus is calling you to walk on water. You've been empowered for this already!
I just concluded the 'I AM CAPABLE' Bible affirmation series on my Instagram page @thebuddingbloom, where I shared scriptures that show us that, through Christ, we can do ALL things!
The 'I am' affirmations was inspired by the beckoning I felt in my spirit. The Lord calling me to look in scriptures to remind me of who I am and what I have been empowered to do through Him.
If you're on Instagram, do check them out. You can save the affirmations and easily reach for them when you need a reminder.
God wants each of us to always remember and know who we are in HIM. That we may walk boldly in that truth and revelation!
Truly, we have been empowered.
No matter what you are going through right now, 'Can you walk on water?' is a challenge to see the strong wind and waves, yet keep your eyes on Jesus and keep walking.
Do you feel like you are sinking? Do what Peter did. Cry out to God to help you. He will save you. He will not let you drown. (Matthew 14:30-31).
Remember, you always have a helper.
