"You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you."
Isaiah 26:3
Where has your mind been lately?
With everything going on in the world today, it's almost hard to keep up.
The devil is having a field day behind the scenes distracting us with different slides of impending doom, and with each slide we view, we inadvertently stray from our place of rest.
Here, feast your eyes on this bad news. The devil coaxes. Yes, think about it. Dwell on it. See how it affects this area of your life? and that area too? Oh boy, you are in trouble!
And just like that, we lose ourselves in a sea of thought that sweeps us further and further away from the peace of God, leaving us more vulnerable to fear, anxiety attacks, depression, and a downward spiritual spiral.
The devil is relentless in attacking the mind, and that is why we need to guard it.
What are we paying attention to? What are we focusing on?
A wandering mind not only interferes with our peace but also interferes with our relationship with God.
I don't know about you, but as for me, I know when my mind has wandered away from God because my prayer life becomes almost non-existent, and I feel completely lost in a haze.
Do you sometimes feel like you are free-falling with no arms outstretched to catch you? You need to recenter. When our mind strays away from Jesus, every problem becomes too big and overwhelming. We toss and turn because we wonder, how do I fix this? Who can get me out of this mess?
Are you restless, losing sleep, but can't effectively communicate or pinpoint the root cause? The only way to stop the whirl is to find your centre and stay rooted there. Without Jesus at the centre, nothing makes sense. Not even prayer.
Indeed, I have found that even prayer becomes ineffective if our minds do not stay on Jesus. It becomes a frantic cry where we exalt our problems instead of God.
With our eyes fixed on God, prayers can then flow from the place of recognizing his sovereignty. That is when peace returns, even in the middle of the storm.
Stay here. Fix your mind on me. The spirit constantly beckons.
Take your eyes away from the chaos and fix your eyes on me. I will help you.
I believe that is the simple message of today's post. Refocus and recenter. If you catch your mind wandering, your peace slipping, your trust in God may be slipping with it too. So, act fast. Refocus and recenter. Feast your eyes on His word, His promises, and His nature, rebuild trust and regain peace.
A wandering mind
Peace eludes
Rest, I beseech thee
Stay
Peace is guaranteed here
