"When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul." Psalms 94:19
As I type this, I am sitting in my backyard with a blanket over me. The weather is perfect. It is sunny, but each time the wind causes the surrounding trees to dance, I get this really cool breeze that makes me want to take a deep breath and shut my eyes.
As I sit here, filled with a sense of serenity, I am reminded of a book I read a while back called "When God winks at you." It is a small book that details true stories told by different people about the 'little' ways God showed them he cares. It's about everyday miracles, the subtle and not so subtle ways God communicates his love for us, and His involvement in our daily lives.
The thing with these moments is that they are easily missed. As we wait for the 'big' things to happen, we miss all the 'winks' God sends our way. We miss those little moments beautifully orchestrated to make us smile and say, wow God, I know that was you!
This moment I am having right now is a God-wink moment. To be able to sit in my backyard, watching the birds fly in the sky and listening to those chirping in the trees just a few feet away from me. All of these are a reminder that God makes beautiful things.
It is as if God is telling me, sit here, take a look at all I have made, all I can do, take it all in. What can't I do for you? It is a reminder that everything will be okay. The one who made everything and holds all things together is in charge of my life. I mean, despite the craziness out there, to just have this moment of complete bliss? I have no doubt I am currently experiencing a God-wink moment. For that, my heart rejoices.
Before I shut down my laptop to burrow more into my blanket (it is getting chillier), I want to challenge you to watch out for these God-wink moments in your own life. Those little signs from God that serve as reminders that He sees you, and He hears you.
Remember, it is easy to dismiss these moments as coincidences. It is easy to not even notice them because of the daily noise around us that seems to get louder and more distracting. But the next time you feel alone, and out of the blue someone you haven't spoken to in a while calls you just to check up on you, they say. That right there is a God-wink! Recognize it, and let that consolation bring cheer to your soul.
Don't you agree that recognizing these little ways God reassures us of His constant presence is a sure way of remaining grateful? Yes, even in challenging COVID times! :)
